it is infact better to leave your computer own, you can use sleep mode or hibernate to run less power, but it is better on the components inside the machine to have a constant voltage to keep everything leveled out, most power failures happen on first start up when everything is first hit with electricity, with a steady flow of electricity in the circuits it will run smoother then sudden stop and start constantly of the circuits this will wear and tear on the circuits , so imo leave it on and use sleep mode and turn your monitor off when not in use, you are running at most 12vdc 5amps, when idle, alot less..so its not a power hog

It depends how long you plan to be away from your computer. If you are going to be gone for only an hour or less, I would leave it running, but if you are going to be gone for more than an hour, you should shut your computer down. Also, it depends what you would like to do. If you don't mind turning it on every time, you may just want to shut it down.
